Ruth Roman is the youngest daughter of Lithuanian as well as Jewish parents Mary Pauline Gold (Gold) & Abraham Roman in Lynn, Massachusetts. Her father, who was a carnival barker, passed away as a young child, forcing her mother to support the family by working as waitress or cleaning lady. Ruth attended school, and was poor throughout Boston Massachusetts the tenement districts. After only two school years she left for an acting profession. Her journey was not without obstacles. her path to success. In New York she was hired to take photos for a publication about crime and drama, however no theater job opportunities came up. She then worked as the hat checker in a night club before calling her quits and relocating to Boston. In Boston, she worked to make enough money as an usherette during the day while working at night in the New England Repertory Company, her first regular acting gig. In addition, she was a drama student and later graduated from the Bishop-Lee Theatre School.
